She attended Metter High school and earned a degree in Business Education at Georgia's Teacher's College (Georgia Southern University). After graduating, she moved to Atlanta and met and married Eugene O'Brien, Sr. Before having children, she taught elementary school for Dekalb County Public Schools. She supported her husband in his law career while volunteering for numerous organizations. When her children were older, she worked part-time for Georgia State Soccer Association where she promoted the growth of youth soccer across the state. Both she and her husband played an intricate role in the development of youth soccer in Georgia. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Annie Margaret Bland; and her husband of 55 years, Eugene O'Brien, Sr. Surviving are her son, Eugene O'Brien Jr.; daughter, Debra O'Brien Thomas (Kevin); grandchildren, Lauren, Jack and Ryan Peebles; sister-in-law and brother-in-laws, Terry Everson, Robert O'Brien and Tom O'Brien; and two-step grandchildren.
