Elwood was born the son of George J. Clark and Bertha Smith. He was later adopted by his mother's 2nd husband James Davy. He had a sister Elizabeth (m. Ogle) and two brothers Myron and George. Elwood served in the United States Army during World War II. He enlisted in the Army on August 8, 1942 and was released on November 21, 1945. Elwood married Shirley Hoxsie on August 12, 1946 at Westbrook, Connecticut. Elwood and Shirley had two boys. Elwood had been a member of the Westbrook Fire Company and the Westbrook Drum Corps. In 2001 Elwood and Shirley moved to Nashua, New Hampshire.
