Steven Gregory Henderson, 68, of Eldon, IA passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at his home. As were Steve's wishes his body has been cremated with burial to be held at a later date.

Steven Gregory Henderson was born on March 14, 1952 in Newton, IA, the youngest of ten children, to Eugene and Vanneta Vinson Henderson. Steven attended school in Iowa, Alabama, and California before graduating from Fountain Valley High School in California with the class of 1970. In 1972 he enlisted in the United States Army as an infantryman and was promoted to Sergeant in 1975 while serving in the 2nd BN 15th Infantry. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1976. Steve always loved the outdoors. He took advantage of any opportunity to go camping and fishing. For many years he would host an annual 4th of July party at the campgrounds and all friends and family were welcome. Steve would set up multiple grills and grill racks of ribs and serve his special Jungle Juice. It was an event that everyone looked forward to attending. The evening would end with a fireworks display for everyone to enjoy. Steve had an infectious personality to match his great sense of humor and gift for storytelling. He enjoyed a good joke and not always the clean ones. In his later years as his health declined Steve would find comfort relaxing at home watching a classic western with his life partner, Beth and their dogs. When he would venture out it was to his local pub Chommy's for a few beers and to argue politics with his buddies or to Ottuwma to spend time with his grandbabies. Steve will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. His stories will live on forever in the hearts and minds of many loving family and friends he leaves behind.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents as well as five siblings, Arthur Henderson, Ted Henderson, Jack Henderson, Dennis Henderson, and Donna Winters.

Left to share his story is his partner in life, Beth Bos of Eldon, IA; four children, Steven Henderson II, Jeremy Henderson Adams of Fresno, CA, Jesse Henderson of Ottumwa, IA, and Cody Henderson of Eldon, IA; two grandchildren, Marie and Kallem Henderson; four siblings, Gary Henderson, Dixie Chabolla, Patricia Altheide, and Sandra Fligg, as well as many extended family and friends.
