Vannoy Watkins KANNAPOLIS - Mrs. Sally Virginia Vannoy Watkins, formerly of Kannapolis, died Nov. 10, 2007, of natural causes after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Mrs. Watkins was a longtime resident of Calvert County Nursing Home in Calvert County, Md. Mrs. Watkins moved to Maryland to be closer to family members following the death of her husband, John Webster Watkins, in 1999. Mrs. Watkins was born June 7, 1921, to John and Mary Vannoy in Wilkes County. She was a prior member of the Westside Church of the Nazarene and retired from Cannon Mills in Kannapolis in 1956. She was preceded in death by her sons, James Marvin McLain and Steve McLain. She is survived by her sister, Mary Scott of Kannapolis; her daughter-in-law, Carol McLain of St. Leonard, Md.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, officiated by the Rev. Charles Savage. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
