Virginia was a victim of Covid.

Virginia James Hunter (Ginny) died on September 21, 2020 at the age of 91. She lived a long and meaningful life before developing Alzheimer’s disease in her early 80’s. As the disease progressed and her devoted husband, Bob, was no longer able to care for her at home, Ginny moved to a local care facility where he visited her every day and personally watched over her care until his death. She had been in declining health for the last several years and after contracting COVID 19, passed away peacefully with a devoted caregiver at her bedside.

Ginny is survived by her three children and seven great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, Robert Copeland Hunter; her sister, Gloria Corbin; and her brothers, Raymond James, Jr., and Dr. Roger James.

Ginny was born in Washington, D. C. on June 18, 1929 to Raymond Julian James, Sr. and Mary Priest James. She graduated from a D. C. high school before attending Bob Jones University where she met and married the love of her life, Robert Hunter (who shares the same birthday with her), and they remained hopelessly devoted to each other for the rest of their lives. The couple moved to Asheville, NC where Ginny proudly became a homemaker, dedicating her life to creating a nurturing home environment for her husband and three children.

Ginny was a woman of faith with a sweet spirit but could be fierce in support of her family and friends. And during her lifetime, Ginny volunteered her time through various community service organizations and contributed generously to multiple worthy charities. She also enjoyed many social activities, including golf, through which she developed numerous life-long friendships in both Asheville as a member of Biltmore Forest Country Club and her winter home in Florida.

Ginny loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren, and they loved her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who inspired everyone around her with her personal values—friendship, loyalty, kindness—her faith, and her unwavering devotion to the ones she loved. Sadly, the insidious creep of Alzheimer’s disease took Ginny from her family much too early. But she was visited often and to the very end, her amazing resilience was something to behold. Ginny will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
