Russell Lynn “Russ” Potter, 73, of Staunton, passed away November 18, 2020, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born November 28, 1946 in Staunton, son of the late Rubien L. Potter and Martha Helen Law Potter.

Russ graduated from Riverheads High School and then went on to Virginia Tech where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He retired as a Graphic Technician with the Central Shenandoah Planning Commission where he served from December 20, 1971 until his retirement in November 2011. An Honorably Discharged Army Veteran, Russ was stationed in Germany during most of his enlistment.

Russell was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a member of St. John’s Reformed Church in Middlebrook. He served as a Bingo Manager at the FOE for many years and was in charge of hiring bands for entertainment. He loved music, bands and Karaoke and especially being around people.

Survivors include his life partner, Chyrl Hill; his first cousin, Jolly Potter Stickley of Lynchburg; his step-son, Chris Hill and his children, Devin Hill, Josh Hill and Allyssa Lynn Hill, who Russ considered as his grandchildren; his step-son, William E. Hill and his son, Keegan James Hill, who Russ considered as his grandson and, his sister-in-law, Janet K. Sebai.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to The Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.
