David Freeman Carlton was born on April 26, 1950 in Harrison, Arkansas to Johnia Wilson Carlton and the late Ishmel Freeman Carlton. He died on November 19, 2020 in Clarksville, Arkansas at the age of 70.

David was drafted into the United States Army in August of 1969 doing two terms and earning many accolades before being discharged. Graduating high school, David said he wanted to be a truck driver and he did just that until retiring. On January 29, 2000 David married the love of his life Janie Shatswell Carlton and together they ran D&J Country store where he could be found greeting customers or spending time with his many friends and family in his “man cave.” Throughout his last years he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and friends visiting casinos, spending time with his pets or watching cartoons with his great-grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his father and his siblings Billy Carlton and Tonya Parker.

He was survived by this mother, Johnia Carlton of Nail, AR and wife, Janie Shatswell Carlton of Clarksville, AR. His sons David Brent Carlton of Harrison, AR, Jason Greenhaw of Dover, AR, daughter, Devona Carlton, Harrison, AR and step-son Randy McClaine of Clarksville, AR. 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Sisters Tochia McCutcheon of Nail, AR, Gena Breedlove of Rogers, AR, Betty Agnew of Russellville, AR, Brothers Bob Carlton and Jim Carlton both of Clarksville, AR.

A walk-through visitation will be on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Hardwicke Funeral home in Clarksville, AR from 5-7 pm.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Nail Cemetery in Nail, AR with Brother Anthony McCutcheon officiating. Pallbearers are Alex McCutcheon, Isaac McCutcheon, Evan Welch, Brandon Carlton, Trenton Dean Carlton, Chad Davis and Roger Ogden. Honorary Pallbearers are all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
