Obituary: Mass of Christian Burial for Gloria J. Garcia, 74, a life-long resident of Hereford, will be celebrated at a later date due to the travel restrictions in place because of the Covid-19 Virus Pandemic. Mrs. Garcia passed away November 17, 2020. Gloria Jean Castañeda was born April 4, 1946 in Vernon, Texas to Consuelo (González) and Jesus H. Castañeda Sr. She moved to Hereford as a small child and had been a resident ever since. Gloria graduated from Hereford High School in 1965. She was a very active and dedicated member of La Iglesia De San José. She was a Meter Maid for the City of Hereford and was a secretary for the Deaf Smith County Justice of the Peace. She then went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and remained there until her retirement. However, retirement was not for Gloria. She soon began working as a secretary for San José Catholic Church where she remained for several years. She loved to sing and was an excellent cook. Gloria was the Matriarch of her family after the death of her Mother. She was a very loving person who would help anyone that needed it. She was selfless and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

The legacy she leaves are three sisters, Linda Castañeda, Carmen Castañeda-Nuñez and husband Ramón, and Christine Castañeda, all of Hereford. Four brothers, Ernest Castañeda and wife Lee Ann of Springfield, Missouri, Rick Castañeda, Jesus H. Castañeda, Jr., and Edward Castañeda, all of Hereford. Four nieces, Courtney, Susan, Cassandra and Jennifer. Eight nephews, Christopher, Kelly, Colby, Roger, Ruben, Joshua, Joshua and Johnathan, and sixteen great-nieces and great-nephews.

Waiting to greet Gloria at the gates of Heaven are her parents, two sisters, Mary Helen and Connie Marie, and one infant brother, Johnny Marcos.
