Thelma Ileen Nelums Barnett, age 81, of the Will Jackson Road in Cadiz, was murdered and her body burned inside her home Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

Ileen was born March 17, 1939, in Trigg County, to the late Frank and Helen (Gray) Nelums. She was the youngest sister of Douglas Nelums, and Barbara Nelums Tyler.

She married Bernard Barnett on December 30, 1955, and they were married for 36 years, 9 months & 5 days, before his death on October 5, 1992 from injuries sustained in a logging accident at Averitt Lumber Company.

During her past years of work she had been employed as a seamstress at Elk Brand Manufacturing in Cadiz, Flynn Enterprises in Hopkinsville, Cumberland Manufacturing in Princeton, and L & G in Cadiz; of which her husband managed and was sewing machine mechanic. Later she timbered alongside her husband.

Some of Ileen's favorite things that she enjoyed were raising flowers and sharing her seeds; feeding birds, especially hummingbirds; and the company of a little dog, of which she'd rescued many over the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Barnett; a grandchild, Darla Allen; a brother, Douglas Nelums; and a sister, Barbara Tyler.

She is survived by three daughters: Donna (Terry) Wynn of Crofton, Connie (Stan) Allen Allen Rogers of Cadiz, Carol (Tony) Noel of Gracey; three grandchildren: Leighton (Krysti) Wynn, Christi Robinson, Ryan Noel; two step great-grandsons: Christian Webb, Hayden Webb; and two great-granddaughters: Janessa Noel, Emaleigh Wynn.

Ileen's beloved chihuahua Missy didn't survive the arson, and was cremated and placed at her feet, to be buried with her.

Arrangements were handled by Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz, KY where the family received friends from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service time of 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2020 with Rev. Norman Cotton officiating. Burial followed at Marvin - Oliver Cemetery on the Trigg County/Lyon County line.

The family requested that Memorial Contributions be made to: Helping Hands, P.O. Box 1874, Cadiz, KY 42211.
