Jerry L. Armstrong

Age 71, died Friday morning, November 13, 2020 at the Evangelical Home-Saline. He was born on July 21, 1949 in Troy, Tennessee to Willie and Iva (Lasley) Armstrong.

He grew up in Tennessee but as a young adult moved to Michigan. He established himself as an entrepreneur, owning and operating his own gas stations and repair shop for over 30 years in Waterford and Pontiac, Michigan. His company was known as Jerry Armstrong, Inc. (Amoco, BP, Marathon)

In addition to his hard work he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending special times with family, especially his grandchildren.

He served as a Marine and strongly believed in his duty to vote, as an American. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ypsilanti and the Knights of Columbus Council 8113, earning his 3rd and 4th degree as a Knight.

On November 10, 1984 he married Pamela Lancey and she survives. He is also survived by a daughter Sherry (Thomas) Bumpus of Ypsilanti, four grandchildren: Sydney, Matthew, Christian, and Alexander “AJ”, a brother Delbert Armstrong of Waterford, MI and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Barbara Jane “Janie”, June and three brothers: Bill, Charles and Larry.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Whittaker on Tuesday, November 17th. at 11:00am where he will lie in state from 10:00am until the time of service. The Knights of Columbus will recite a rosary at church in his honor beginning at 10:30am. Burial with military honors under the auspices of Washtenaw County Honor Guard will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Whittaker, Michigan. Contributions may be made to the Evangelical Home-Saline where he had resided for the past several months. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks to the staff and team members of the Evangelical Home for their care and support to Jerry and his family.
