Mrs. Gwendolyn Butler Williams was born to the parentage of the late Eulee Bridges and Geneva Butler on April 12, 1950 in Baxley, Georgia. She was also reared by the late Mose Butler, Sr.
She received her education in the Appling County School System.
Gwendolyn confessed Christ at an early age and joined the First African Baptist Church in Baxley. She always had a love of her home Church. She later continued her faithful walk with Christ as Deaconess Williams serving with the St. Paul Baptist Church in LaGrange, Georgia; in many capacities to include the choir and kitchen Ministry. She also played the piano, keyboard, and an angelic voice to sing.
She began working in the Retail Industry in the early 70's. With over thirty years combined, she managed several different stores including Bills Dollar Store, Wal-Mart, and McDonald's. She did volunteer work at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center until her health declined.
Mrs. Williams was united in Holy Matrimony to her soulmate, the late James Edward Williams, Sr. for forty-two years. To this union, four children were born: Wendy, Wilma, Wanda, and James "Junior".
You could often find Mrs. Williams being a mother to many. She was an excellent cook, and she loved to cook and feed you. You could always be assured to get a good meal or cake at Moma Gwen's home. She was known to have her "Fish on Fridays", feeding whomever stopped by. She was also known to have made some of the best homemade dressing this side of Heaven. Her grandchildren will miss her red velvet and key lime cakes. In addition to cooking being on of her favorite hobbies, others included singing, fishing, and shopping at thrift stores. She LOVED the good Will Store.
