Shortly after graduation she met, fell in love and after a six month courtship married Herb Austin Sr. To this union was born three children. They enjoyed 61 years of marital bliss.
Sister Austin was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church, where she faithfully served as Deaconess preparing communion and candidates for baptism, Choir Director and an Altar worker. She was a faithful attendee of many, many events throughout the city, as she loved supporting her community. In 1996, Sister Kathy retired from the State of Michigan after 25 years of service and thoroughly enjoy her retirement which included golfing, traveling and shopping! Sunday nights were special as those were the times spent with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with much laughter and joy.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Elizabeth Hopkins; brother, Sherman Bennett; sisters, Juanita Simmons and Mabel White.
Sister Kathy Austin departed this life unexpectedly on August 28th. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her faithful husband of 61 years, Herb Austin, Sr.; devoted daughter, of Lansing , MI; two devoted sons, of Phoenix, AZ and of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren, great grandchildren; siblings; of Lansing, MI and of Orlando, FL; two special daughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and godchildren!
Visitation for Mrs. Kathryn Lois Austin will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Riley Funeral Home from 12:00-6:00pm.
Funeral service for Mrs. Kathryn Lois Austin will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:30am at Mount Zion Church, 10575 Krepps Road, Dewitt, MI 48820. Family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
