Mackie was born on December 3, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to Matthew Cartwright Allen Sr. and Flossie (Davis) Allen. He graduated from Memphis High School in May of 1953, then earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from West Texas State in 1958. While at WT he participated in the Church of Christ Bible Chair, Army ROTC, played football as a 185-pound guard (with no facemask) and helped start the first golf team. He married Teddie Trulove on May 30, 1959 in Memphis, Texas, and they were married 61 years. They made Memphis their home where they raised two daughters, Sandra and Sue.
Mackie always knew that he would manage the family owned business, Memphis Compress. He began his part time work at age 13 and remained on the job for 60 years until the business was sold in 2007. His passion was Hall County and Memphis, where he helped oversee volunteer Compress construction projects such as the Allen Field House and the building of tennis courts. Mackie was a longtime member of the Memphis Church of Christ and served as an Elder, Deacon and song leader for over 60 years. He believed that spreading God’s word was his greatest calling. He was a faithful servant of God and continued to use his faith to touch others around him even in his final days. Most of all, Mackie loved his family unconditionally, watching his grandchildren’s activities as well as his 5 great grandsons playing sports.
Mackie will be remembered by his loving wife, Teddie Allen of Abilene, 2 daughters, Sandra Harrison and husband LaDell of Abilene, Sue Harrelson and husband Dennis of Carrollton, grandchildren, Justin and wife Kendall, Joshua and wife Abbie, Jerod and girlfriend Eve, Casey and Jennifer and fiancé Chad, great grandsons Ryder, Reece, Levi, Mackie and Hayes, sister Barbara Thomas of Holly Lake, Texas and nephew Matt Harding and son Lucas of Amarillo.
Mackie is preceded in death by his father, Matthew Cartwright Allen Sr., by his mother Flossie, by a sister, Dorothy and infant son, Matthew Cartwright Allen III.
