Theresa began her schooling in the San Augustine School District. She briefly attended Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas and later at Los Angeles City College where she studied business administration. She worked for Los Angeles Unified School District {LAUSD} as a teacher’s assistant and later worked in the administrative office at James Monroe High School in North Hills, CA where she later retired. She rode the bus to assist with students that participated in the busing program from Los Angeles to San Fernando Valley and stayed after school for those who were involved in after school sports and other activities. The students loved Mrs. Wright because she was compassionate and protective of them.
Theresa joined Calvary Baptist Church in the early 60’s and was a faithful member for many years. She served as a devoted usher and later with the mother’s board and volunteered for many church events. She raised her children and grandchildren who attended Sunday school, youth choir, youth programs and activities. She loved her church, especially the children. She believed in helping the “Calvary Kids” with her generous contributions and encouraged them to further their education.
Theresa is survived by son Garry Wright and his wife Toya Wright of Carson, CA; granddaughters Tiffany Wright and Phylisha Wright of Carson, CA; Her siblings, Vernon Thomas of Silsbee, TX, Kenny Thomas Jr. of San Augustine, TX, Velma Jewel {Joe} Barnes of Houston, TX, Ernest {Dorothy} Thomas of Weatherford, TX, Joann {Addie Lee} Watts of San Augustine, TX; two sister in laws Dorothy Mann, of Los Angeles, CA and Faye Kelley of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
