While at East Carolina University, Terry ran track and field from 1976-1978. He was also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. After graduation, Terry served four and a half years of active duty service in the U.S. Army. In 1987, Terry began working at the Directorate of Engineering and Housing (DEH). Terry worked in various government agencies, his last position was with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) as a Contracting Officer at Fort Belvoir, VA for twenty years. Terry worked a total of 38 years for the federal government.
Terry had a passion for racing Mustang cars. His favorite pass-time was going fishing with his brothers and sons on crowded fishing piers in Norfolk, VA and the Carolinas. Terry also enjoyed many family gatherings during the summertime and the holidays.
Born on February 21, 1958, he was the son of the late James M. Perry Sr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Marshall Perry, grandmother Mary Louise Perry, sister, Zina B. Lett, and his son, SGT. Terry T. Perry Jr.
Terry leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Maureen T. Perry; his four sons; SPC. Marshal L. Perry, Joseph M. Perry, Andrew A. Perry, and Michael A. Perry; one daughter, DeLisa N. Perry. His mother Rose Banks and step-father Kenneth Banks; two sisters, Sylvia Hettiarachchi and Janet Patterson; two brothers, James Perry Jr. (Davaline) and Rodney Perry (Guna); four uncles and four aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
