Richard M. Barber, age 83, formerly of Union and East Orange, NJ passed peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Haven Hospice.

Born June 28, 1937 in Newark, NJ. Son of the late Andrew and Edna McGuiness Barber. Richard was predeceased by the love of his life Joan Marie Cooney Barber on December 10, 2014.

Raised in East Orange, NJ, Richie was a graduate of East Orange High School. He spent much time working in the family's florist shop before joining the United States Marine Corp. After his military service, Richie pursued a career in law enforcement and joined the East Orange Police Department. He achieved the rank of Detective Sergeant and worked as an investigator with the Arson Squad.

Upon retiring, Richie and his wife Joan moved to Myrtle Beach, SC where he enjoyed many rounds of golf, cruises with friends and visits from family.

Richie was a member and past President of NJ State PBA Local #16, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4504 in Union NJ, member of the Emerald Society and was named 1995 Irishman of the Year in East Orange.

Richard is survived by his beloved children, daughter: Tricia Marra and husband Peter of Clinton Twp, NJ and three sons: Thomas Barber and wife Lori of Manalapan, NJ; Kenneth Barber and wife Valerie of Basking Ridge, NJ and Jeffrey Barber and wife Brenda of Toms River, NJ; grandchildren: Jenna, TJ, Amanda, Alexa, Michael, Christian, Taylor, Colin, Matthew, Cole, Haley and Nicholas; great grandchild: Layton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 24th at Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ. Entombment will follow in Immaculate Conception Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may gather with the family on Sunday, November 22nd from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ.
