Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1950 to 1956), he played at the halfback and fullback positions in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns. Born Fred Lew Morrison, he attended Upper Arlington High School in Ohio and following graduation, he enlisted and served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Following his return home, he enrolled at Ohio State University where he played collegiate football. During his years with the Buckeyes, he experienced a Rose Bowl title as Ohio State defeated California 17-14 on January 2, 1950. Morrison rushed for 119 yards and received Most Valuable Player honors for the contest. Selected by the Chicago Bears during the 1st round of the 1950 NFL Draft, he totaled 84 career regular season games. He experienced two world championships with the Cleveland Browns (1954 and 1955) and distinguished himself individually when he achieved Pro-Bowl honors in 1955. After retiring as a player, he remained in the sport and served in the front offices of the Southern California Sun of the World Football League and the Los Angeles Express of the United States Football League. Additionally, he was active in the Boys and Girls Clubs of American. He died of complications from a broken hip.
