Gary Robert Barnes, 72, of Westminster passed away on November 15, 2020 in Westminster, MD.
Born October 9, 1948 in Hampden, he was the son of the late Ivan and Mary (Ernst) Barnes. He was a resident in Hampden for 38 years before moving to Westminster, MD with his beloved wife, Dawn Barnes, to whom he was lovingly married to for 41 years.

Gary was a pillar to his community and had an innate desire to help others. He proudly coached little league baseball teams at the Roosevelt Recreation Center in his youth. He also dedicated his time as a Past Master for Pickering Masonic Lodge and was a Worshipful Master in 1980. He was a proud member of both the Boumi Shriners and American Legion, as well.

Graduating from Baltimore City College in 1966, he later attended the Liberty Young School of Law. He worked for the United States Postal service for 35 years, retiring at age 55. He enjoyed golf, gardening, magic tricks, Dunkin Donuts outings, but above all else, time with family and friends. He was an avid dog lover (despite being a mailman) and was well known throughout the community for his remarkable memory of Hampden, all its residents, his brilliant sense of humor and his infectious laugh.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Erin (Tyler) Maltese. Gary dedicated the last 3 years of his life to fulfilling his life-long dream as a grandfather to his adored Roman. Also surviving are his cherished brother Randy (Judy) Barnes of Annapolis, beloved nephew Michael(Jessica) Barnes of Millersville and loving niece Terri (Richard) Leeds of Odenton. Gary also left behind four beautiful great nieces, Lauren and Katie Leeds and Brooke and Grace Barnes.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. (Due to the worldwide coronavirus; AKA: COVID-19)

Memorial contributions in his honor are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
