Mrs Jamieson Dies Suddenly
The town of Almonte lost one of its finest citizens in the passing of Mrs Evelyn Jamieson, wife of Mr Raymond A. Jamieson, Q.C., 231 Union Street on the morning of Friday, March 2nd, 1979. Mrs Jamieson was in her 72nd year. Born in Almonte, May 24, 1907, Evelyn May Blake was a daughter of the late Harry Blake and his wife, Beatrice King. She received her education in the Almonte Public and High Schools. Mrs Jamieson was a faithful member of and regular attendant at the Almonte United Church. She was a member and one of the founders of the Fireside Unit of the U.C.W. and had served as a member of the Committee of Stewards. She was the originator of the annual Christmas Fair., which has been so successfully held each fall under her leadership. The fair was originally started as a means of raising funds to retire the mortgage occasioned by the construction of the Church extension carried out in 1966. Mrs Jamieson was also active in the social work of the town. She was a great benefactor to persons in need and spent many hours driving Seniors Citizens to and from appointments and driving patients to the cancer clinic. During World War II she was actively engaged in the activities of the Junior War Aid. In Canada's centennial year she was the recipient of a Canadian Centennial Medal "in recognition of valuable service to her community and to the nation." Mrs Jamieson was selected by Almonte Town Council as their nominee for the honour in view of the work she had sone over the years in the field of Charity and in the various organizations of the town. She was married at Almonte in September, 1926, to Mr Jamieson, who survives, together with a son, John of Clayton; two daughters, Lorna (Mrs Donald Johnson), Smiths Falls, and Alice (Mrs Jack Mason) of Sudbury, and eight grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin street, Almonte, on Sunday afternoon, March 4, with Rev Robert McCrea officiating. Interment was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Kim and Peter Johnson, and George Robertson, Herb Pragnell, Ross Craig and Norman Sadler.
