The daughter of Henry and Leah L. (Jacobs) Allen.

Sophia married Charles Lewis Wilbur at Boston on July 4, 1853. They were parents of the following known children, John Fremont, born in Kansas in 1857; Clarence M., born at Boston on Sep. 13, 1862; George Gilman, born Feb. 14, 1864; and Sophia Erminie, born Dec. 11, 1865, the latter two at Portland, ME. The fact that son John F. was born in Kansas in 1857 suggests Charles was an abolitionist and moved there for the purpose of ensuring Kansas remained a free territory.

Sophia and her husband Charles were divorced at Portland in April 1876. She's listed in the 1894, 1900, and 1903 Portland, ME City directories as the "widow" of Charles L. and residing at 156 Federal St. with daughter Erminie, a compositor. The social embarrassment of the divorce probably led to her stating she was a widow as her husband Charles didn't die in Boston until 1909.

Sophia was 77 years, seven months, and 14 days old when she died at Portland due to "Senile Dementia complicated by Hemiplegia."
