He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, and attended elementary and high school in Fosston, graduating in 1973. After high school he attended farrier school for horse shoeing in Macomb, Illinois. Larry was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Gemma Grandbois, on January 3, 1976.
Due to a back disease, Larry did not work as a farrier but instead went to work for Thorson Construction for nine years. After working for Thorson, he started work for LePier Oil Company as a transport truck driver. For the past four years, he worked for Northdale Oil until illness forced his retirement in October of 2020.
Every morning before work, Larry loved to visit and have coffee with his buddies at the local coffee spot. After his morning coffee fix he would get in his 18-wheeler and cruise down Highway 2.
Larry also loved to deer hunt each Fall with his family. He was always looking for the big buck! His other great passion was ice fishing. He enjoyed teaching the grandkids to fish and encouraged them not to give up waiting for the big one.
He was so proud of his six grandchildren, Kayla for her love of swimming on the Fosston school team, Tessa for her love of horses and competing in barrel racing (just like grandpa), Katelyn for her love of volleyball on the Fosston school team and love of deer hunting, Anna for her smiles and caring personality, Ronnie for shooting his first deer this year, and Krista for her love of horses and also shooting her first deer this year.
Despite his constant teasing, endless jokes and, at times, stubbornness, there was a loving, giving, and caring person. That evidence is the deep sorrow and pain in our hearts that his family feels from his passing. He was a devoted and loving husband and a proud dad of three beautiful daughters, Amy, Jenny and Angie. He will be dearly missed.
Larry is surived by his wife of 44 years, Gemma; daughters: Amy (Pat) Jackson, Jennifer (Erwin) Zitzow, and Angela (Andy) Shimpa; grandchildren: Katelyn, Anna, Ronnie, Kayla, Tessa, and Krista; sisters, Jeannie (Ed) Larrivy and Carol (Pete) Bertram; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his parents, Vernon and Lenora Scott.
