His ashes were co-mingled with those of his wife on Nov. 22, 2022, when the two were interred together during a graveside service at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, Rapid City, SD.
The Honorable Andrew W. Bogue, 90, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at his home at Hisega, SD (outside of Rapid City.). Judge Bogue was born in Yankton, South Dakota on May 23, 1919. He graduated from high school in Parker, South Dakota and received his undergraduate degree from State College in Brookings in 1941. He graduated from Law School at the University of South Dakota in 1947. He was a veteran of two wars - signal corps during WWII and JAG Corps during the Korean Conflict.
He married F. Elizabeth Williams in 1945 at Sioux Falls, SD.
After graduating from law school, he practiced law with his father in Parker, South Dakota. He subsequently moved to Canton, South Dakota to take over a law practice vacated by his cousin, Harold Bogue. He served for 8 years on the South Dakota Cement Commission from 1957 until 1966, and served as its Chairman for a number of years. In 1967, he was elected as one of the state court judges of the Second Judicial Circuit, where he served for approximately 3 years. On April 24, 1970, he was appointed to be a judge in United States District Court for the State of South Dakota, and was sworn in on May 1, 1970. He heard his first case that afternoon in Rapid City. He heard cases in the upstairs of the First Federal Savings & Loan building in Rapid City and in the federal building in Deadwood until the construction of a new courthouse several years later. While sitting as a trial judge in the U.S. District Court, Judge Bogue also sat by designation on many cases with the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Note: In 2011, the federal building at Rapid City, SD, was re-named the Andrew W. Bogue Federal Building in his honor and by order of the United States Congress and President Obama.
He is survived by his wife and three children Steve, Laurie, and Scott.
