Neil David Smith, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away on November 15, 2020 at IU Health-Bloomington Hospice House. Neil was born on May 27, 1946, in Fresno, California.
He grew up in Fresno and graduated from San Joaqin Memorial High School in 1964.
After high school, Neil attended college at Fresno State College, receiving a Bachelor of Science in History. He then joined the United States Air Force in 1970. Shortly thereafter, he married his beautiful wife, Carolyn Schultz of St. Louis, MO. They were married in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 15, 1972. Neil proudly served his country for 21 years, retiring in 1991 at the rank of Major.
Neil was a devoted husband and father. He dedicated his life to his family and to the Air Force. Neil had a passion for flying as an Aviation Navigator for the AWACS and B-52 aircraft. He loved family game night, especially pinochle and mahjong.
Neil is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn Schultz Smith; children Kevin Smith and Dale (Laurie) Smith; grandchildren Layla and Xavier Smith; and sister Pat Smith.
Private services will be held at Clear Creek Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home, Ellettsville, Indiana.
