Born on April 6, 1944 in Cranston, he was the son of Benjamin Clarke Baxter Sr. and Dorothy (Russo) Baxter.
Devoted father of 4 children: David Baxter of Coventry, Wendy Baxter of Dummerston, VT, Allison Eley and husband Chad, of Canterbury, NH, and Susan Scanlon and husband Matt, of Scituate.
Ben treasured time spent with his nine grandchildren, always proudly cheering them on in all sports and activities.
He leaves 2 brothers, Robert and Richard Baxter, of San Diego, CA, and sister, Patricia Baxter of Johnston. He is predeceased by brother Gregory.
Benjamin graduated from Cranston High School East, served in the RI Air National Guard, and spent many active years in the West Warwick and RI Jaycees, where he was a JCI Senator. Ben worked many years in various financial institutions, retiring from Coventry Credit Union. He enjoyed skiing with family and friends and volunteered at Yawgoo Valley Ski Area, where he was a Ski Patrol Leader. Avid golfer, long time member of King’s Crossing and RIGA. Always ready for a round with life long friends.
Some of his favorite things were walks on the beach, Block Island, traveling to places like Hawaii and Alaska, his second home in Hilton Head, SC, and spoiling the grand-dog, Baxter, with treats and walks.
Ben will always be remembered as a proud and loving father, devoted husband, and good friend to many.
Ben’s Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, November 20, 2020 in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington St., Coventry.
In remembrance of Ben, memorial donations made to the RI Alzheimer's Association (alz.org/donate), would be appreciated.
