November 02, 1942 - November 15, 2020

Roy Don Stephens, 78, of Pampa, passed away on November 15, 2020 in Amarillo.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, and Pastor Don Lacy, pastor of Arapaho First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. The service will be lived streamed through the funeral home web page.

Roy Don was born November 2, 1942 in Pampa. His family left Pampa when he was young and lived in several towns in the panhandle such as Memphis, Estelline, Earth, and finally Plainview. He moved back to Pampa when he was in the eighth grade. Roy Don was very active in sports in junior high and Pampa High School. His senior year, he was an outstanding quarterback for the Pampa Harvesters and played baseball for the Harvesters. He played summer league baseball and went on to play on a semi-pro traveling baseball team. He loved all sports. After graduating in 1961, he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma for one semester and then transferred to West Texas State University in Canyon. Roy Don married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Langford, on August 23, 1963 in Pampa. He went to work for Cabot Corporation in 1967 and later to Celanese Chemical Co., where he retired after 31 years. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church.

Roy Don began playing golf in 1964; it was not unusual for him to play 36 holes in his younger years, even 45 holes sometimes. He was an avid bowler as well, winning many trophies over the years, until uncle AUTHUR got the best of him. He loved to continue to play golf as much as possible, and he enjoyed his time with the Senior Golf Association at Hidden Hills and playing in the Tri-State Seniors Golf Tournament. He loved to be on the course mentoring to his grandson and great-grandsons, with whom he loved to play. When he was not playing golf, you could find him tending to his yard, either pulling weeds or mowing. He loved following his grandchildren and their activities and he will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of the home; 2 daughters, Lori Barker and husband Jimmy and Leslee Lycke and husband David, all of Pampa; a son, William Craig Stephens of Pampa; a sister, Judy Riley of Pampa; a brother, Larry Stephens and wife Alma of Denton; 6 grandchildren, Casey Thomas and husband Justin of Pampa, Braydon Barker and wife Brittnee of Pampa, Briana Molinar and husband Karim of Fellsmere, Florida, Brooklyn Lacy and husband Drew of Clinton, Oklahoma, Hayley Weaver of Pampa, and Heaven L’esperance of Amarillo; 9 great-grandchildren, Gunter Thomas, Gatlyn Thomas, Boston Barker, Branson Barker, Zayden Molinar, Alexander Molinar, Kimber Lacy, Caden Weaver, and Conner Weaver.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, 203 N. West St., Pampa, Texas 79065.

The family has asked that a mask be worn at Roy Don's service.
