June Ritchie Chambers

June Ritchie Chambers died Monday morning, Jan. 24, 2005, after a long illness from Alzheimer's.

She was born on June 13, 1924, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late William S. and Myrtle Ritchie of Ravenswood.

Before transferring to West Virginia University where she received her bachelor's degree, she attended two years at Ward Belmont Jr. College in Nashville, Tenn. She then went to WVU School of Medicine for two years for her master's degree and transferred to Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where she received her M.D. degree. Her internship was completed in Cleveland at Huron Road Hospital. Her medical residency was completed at Memorial Hospital in Charleston in internal medicine. She practiced internal medicine for several years. June completed a second residency in psychiatry at CAMC. She practiced psychiatry at Shawnee Hills. She was a longtime member of Christ Church United Methodist, where she served on the church board.

June is survived by her husband, Dr. John T. (Jack) Chambers, to whom she was married for 57 years; her three children, John Chambers of Los Altos Hills, Calif., Cindy Park of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Patty Anido of Corona del Mar, Calif.; and nine grandchildren. June also has two brothers, Bill and Ray Ritchie, both of Ravenswood.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Church United Methodist with the Rev. Dr. Randy Flanagan officiating. Interment will be 4:15 p.m. Friday in Ravenswood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson Funeral Home, 420 Lee Street West, Charleston, W.Va.

The family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of WV, 1111 East Lee St., Charleston, WV 25301.
