Phyllis Eloise Hatsfelt Sutton, 86, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 8:45 PM on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in her daughter’s residence.

Mrs. Sutton was born March 2, 1934 in Oakdale, LA, where she was a 1952 graduate of Oakdale High School. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church for over sixty years, where she was active with numerous groups throughout the years, most recently the JOY Group and Choir. In 1998, she retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where she drove a school bus for over twenty-nine years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and creating ceramic and porcelain dolls. Mrs. Sutton will always be remembered as a supportive and wonderful mother and grandmother, who loved Christmas and will be missed dearly.

Mrs. Sutton is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, William “Bill” Sutton; daughters, Lwana Pitman and husband Mark of Lake Charles; Karen Sutton-Giroir of Tioga, LA, and Lori Berwick of Lake Charles; brother, Toby Hatsfelt and wife Marian of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Jeff Pitman, Amy Pitman Langley and husband Nick, Breean Smith and husband Benjamin, Valarie Ford and husband Dillon, Jonathan Giroir, Randi LeBlanc and husband Cody, Kelli Pitre and husband John and Scott Berwick; and eleven great-grandchildren, Allie, Jacob, and Jack Pitman, Taylor Cameron, Payton, Baylee, and Graham Langley, Kiley and Cora LeBlanc, and Christian Ford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lorraine Hatsfelt; and infant daughter, Amy Denise Sutton.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff, 2171 N. Highway 171, Lake Charles, LA 70611. Reverend Steve James will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
