Sandra Kathlene Steele, age 80 of Tazewell, VA died Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, VA. She was born May 18, 1940 in Dickenson County, VA and was a daughter of the late Luttie and Frances Benfield Puckett. She attended public school in Mouthcard, KY and was a graduate of Pikeville, HS. She and her husband, Bill Steele, ran and operated a grocery store after Mr. Steele retired from the coal mines. Mrs. Steele was a member of the Dailey’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Baptist Valley, VA where she loved worshipping the Lord and being with her Church family. She enjoyed writing songs and cooking. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William W. “Bill” Steele; one sister, Pat Dixon; one brother, Jerry Puckett.
Those who survive to cherish her memory include her son, Rick Steele and wife, Melodie of Cedar Bluff, VA; one daughter, Missy Steele-Lynch of Winston-Salem, NC; one grandson, Tyler Lynch of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Kay Green and husband, Norman “Bucky” of MacCleeny, FL and Verenda Sellers and husband, John of Green Coast Springs, FL; two brothers, Gary “Conn” Puckett and wife, Betty of Callahan, FL and David Puckett and wife, Ann of Jacksonville, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Steele will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. John R. Repass officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
