October 28, 2017 Mark Anthony Newman, DVM, Diplomat, ABVP, 55, of Blacksburg, Virginia passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Mark was a New River Valley native who had been in practice for over 20 years and was the sole proprietor of Radford Animal Hospital. He was a graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional Veterinary College at Virginia Tech and earned his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech as well. Mark was well known and loved for his skills as a Veterinarian, but his greatest skill was in his ability to relate to every pet he treated as if it were his own. Mark enjoyed a variety of activities to include Virginia Tech football, kayaking, target shooting, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Lori Young Newman of Blacksburg; his mother and father, Dennis and Barbara Newman of Riner; his sister, Lorri P. Newman of Salem; and two children, Andy and Erin Newman and their mother Carolyn Newman of Radford. The family will be celebrating Mark's life in a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Shake Smith and Pastor T. Michael Bond officiating. Private Graveside Services will follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Radford Animal Hospital Angel Fund or The American Cancer Society.
