Joe Leslie Weaver, Jr (J.L.), 80, completed his earthly journey on Friday, November 13, 2020. By faith we know he is with his Savior.
J.L. was born in Johnston County on September 9, 1940 to the late Joe Leslie Weaver, Sr. and Isabel Moore Weaver.
The Weaver family moved to Wayne County in 1943. He was a graduate of Grantham High School. J.L. loved his country and proudly served in the United States Army for three years. He was employed by the Southern Bell Telephone Company for more than 39 years.
The three most important things to J.L. were family, faith, and country. J.L. became a member of Eureka Christian Church at the age of fifteen. His church was very important to him. He served on numerous committees, was a deacon and elder. He received Elder Emeritus after becoming unable to serve due to Alzheimer’s. He often said he couldn’t teach but would serve his Lord in any capacity he could.
J.L. is survived by his wife Iris. They would have celebrated their 59th anniversary on November 22nd. He is also survived by two sons, Joe Leslie Weaver III (Becky) of Clayton and Christopher Lee Weaver (Angie) of Garner; daughter, Heather Weaver Hollowell (George) of Mt. Olive; three grandchildren Ethan Cole Weaver, Kadin Renn Weaver and Charley Isabel Hollowell. He is also survived by a sister, Gloria Weaver Gurley (Phil); sister-in-law, Ann Jones Weaver; his in-laws, who always treated him as a brother, Margaret Cook, Danny Joyner, Ricky Joyner, Wayne Joyner and Gordon Joyner; half- brother, Jay Weaver (Michelle).
In addition to his parents, J.L. was preceded in death by brothers, James Weaver and Phillip Weaver; and sister, Linda Weaver Bartlett.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. at Eureka Christian Church followed by a service to celebrate J.L.’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Frank Purvis officiating. A private entombment for the family will be at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care provided by the staff of Community Hospice Care. Love and heartfelt thanks is expressed to his “angel” Julie. The family would also like to thank his nephew and prayer warrior, Richie Kirby.
