"Mr. Mariano J. Broccoli, 67, of 1600 Girard St., Utica, died on Friday, March 25, 1988, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born in Utica, NY, July 18, 1920, a son of the late Frank and Mary Colosimo Broccoli. He was educated in local schools and on June 14, 1941, Mariano was married to the former Philomena Fusco. During WW II, he served in the U.S. Army. In 1948, following WW II, Mr. Broccoli established the Utica Veal Co. with his brothers, Victor and Frank Broccoli, and Joseph Rocco and Samuel Santino. Mariano Broccoli was one of the most respected men in his industry and is well-known throughout the U.S. and Canada. He was one of the innovators of the Veal Technology used today, including the formula fed calves program, processing technologies and worked with the National Humane Society in establishing the Utica Veal Plant as a model for humane processing in the U.S. ... He is survived by his beloved wife, Philomena; his daughter, Rosemary Broccoli, of San Diego; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Francine Broccoli, of Marcy, Martin J. and Diane Broccoli, of New Hartford; four grandchildren, Renee, Marc, Michele and Nicole Broccoli; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Victor J. and Phyllis Broccoli, of New Hartford, Frank A. and Barbara Broccoli, of Utica; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie and Anthony Randazzo, of New Hartford, Antoinette and William Prato, of Utica. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his son, James V. Broccoli, in 1979. The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 10:30 from St. Anthony of Padua Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery ..."
