Marilyn Stewart,
(nee Struthers)

Age 91, of Wauwatosa, WI, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2020. She was a devoted wife to Dair James Stewart, and mother to Polly, Elizabeth, and Duncan. She loved her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Born in Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada and raised in Detroit, she became a naturalized citizen in 1951. Marlyn was the daughter of Robert and Margaret Struthers. Marlyn and Dair met and married in Rockford, IL, then spent 20 years on Lake Mendota in Madison raising their family, moving to Mequon in 1980. After Dair passed away, Marlyn made her home in downtown Milwaukee.

Marlyn will be remembered for her wit, independent spirit, elegance and graciousness. She enjoyed and supported the arts, including the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, the Florentine Opera and the Milwaukee Symphony and served on several boards. Marlyn was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin. She also served on the Scholarship Committee of the College Endowment Association for many years.

Raised in urban Detroit, she grew to love the north woods of Wisconsin, spending more than 60 summers at Pine Lake, near Chetek, enjoying cottage living and lake traditions and passing them on to her family. Marlyn will be missed by her brother Glen (Gloria) of Grosse Ile, MI and Hallandale Beach, FL; children, Polly (Peter) Johnsen of Hanna City, IL, Elizabeth (David LePage) Stewart of Brainerd, MN, and Duncan (Helen) Stewart of Bartonville, TX; her grandchildren, Andrew (Tracy) Johnsen and Eric Johnsen, Benjamin and Samuel Nordenson, and Darcy Stewart; and her great-grandchildren, James and Jonah Johnsen. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her husband, her parents, and two brothers, Archie and Bob Struthers, preceded her in death.

A family celebration and memorial will be held at Pine Lake next summer, with burial next to her husband at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Lake Nebagamon, WI. Church and Chapel Funeral Homes of Brookfield is assisting with the arrangements.

The family would like to thank the many devoted St. Camillus caregivers. We request that memorials be made to the St. Camillus Foundation, Inc., Employee Appreciation Fund, 10200 W Bluemound Rd, Wauwatosa, WI 53226.
