He was born Aug. 12, 1943, in Warren, the son of James R. Rawlings Sr. and Ollie Mae Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Warren until he moved to Charlotte in June 2016.
Mr. Rawlings graduated from Warren G. Harding High School and earned an associate degree from Kent State University. A proud veteran of the Army, he retired from Packard Electric and was a member of New Creation Bible Fellowship. He enjoyed reading, music, watching movies and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Precious memories of Mr. Rawlings live on with his one son, Reginald Rawlings (Tisha) of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Renee Freeman of Chesapeake, Va. and Sonja Draught (Damon) of Watertown, N.Y.; five grandchildren, First Lieutenant Damon Draught II, Jocelyn E. Freeman, Nicholas J. Draught, Janasi O. Rawlings and Justin A. Draught; his dear aunt, Leola Trimble; his stepsister, Anita Jones of Birmingham, Ala.; and a host of other family and friends who loved him and thought the world of him.
Preceding him in death are his parents, James R. Rawlings Sr. and Ollie Mae Jones; his stepfather, Hardrick Jones; his stepmother, Ruby Rawlings; and his beloved wife, Carolyn R. (Reid) Rawlings.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home. Entombmemt will follow in Pineview Memorial Park. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Masks are required, and social distancing practices will be observed.
