Services for Harold Allen "Pappy" Holmes, 82, rural Linwood, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Dotson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Sidney Cemetery at Linwood.

Mr. Holmes died Saturday at his home. He was born Feb. 26, 1908, in Tonganoxie.

Mr. Holmes lived in the Linwood area all of his life.

He attended Linwood Elementary School and graduated from Linwood High School in 1927.

He farmed in the Linwood community and worked for B.A. Green Construction Co. until his retirement in the early 1970s.

His hobbies were antique engines and farm implements.

Mr. Holmes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linwood.

He married Clara Elizabeth Zimmerli on Sept. 11, 1933, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Reno, rural Linwood; four brothers, Charles Holmes, Blooming Prairie, Minn, Quentin Holmes, rural Linwood, Howard Holmes, Orange, Calif., and Sherley Holmes, Kansas City, Kan.; three sisters, Louise Rausch, Muncie, Elizabeth Peylon and Dorothea Chamney, both of Lawrence; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
