Douglas Wayne Stewart, 72, of Lexington, KY, passed from this life at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY on October 17, 2020.
Doug served in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and retired from Davis & Plomin Mechanical in Lexington, KY.
Doug was born on September 26,1948 to the late Emery & Edith Howard Stewart. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Mildred (Mickey) Porter & Gayle Tucker; brothers Dallas Stewart, Allen Stewart, Arliss Stewart & Darryle Stewart; father-in-law, William Glenn Horton; mother-in-law, Iva Lee Horton Hart; and, brother-in-law, Clark Pursiful.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janet Stewart. He is also survived by brothers Gary Stewart (Karen) of Rio Vista, KY, Jerry Stewart (Ranji) of Harlan, KY, Don Stewart of Muncie, IN, James (Jimmy) Stewart (Jean) of Nicholasville, KY, who was also his best friend, and his special sister-in-law, Rinda Pursiful-Williams of Frankfort, KY.
Doug was also survived by his nieces, whom he loved as his own, Serita Johnson (Craig) of Lexington, KY, Christy Henry (Jim) of Bloomington, IN and Lauren (Beth) Moore (Zach) of Frankfort, KY, as well as a very special nephew Dustin Stewart (Jared) of Knoxville, TN. He also adored his great-nephew, Austin Collier, and his three great-nieces Madisyn Johnson, Claire Moore, and Emerson Moore.
Doug was blessed to have two special lifelong friends Doug Hoskins and Doug (Willie) Johnson; Thomas Grant Williams, of whom Doug thought of as a grandson, and his parents Jessica and Bart; and a special cousin Dutch (Roy) Moore. Doug was also survived by a host of many more dear friends and family.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, (Nov. 14) from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, 114 S 3rd Street, Harlan, KY 40831. Military Honors will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard at 4:00 pm.
Covid-19 Restrictions of 50% of our capacity, face masks, and social distancing all set by the Governor of Kentucky shall be followed. (The family has asked that all visitors please wear some kind of face covering)
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or https://www.aspca.org/
