Kevin H. Parker
It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin H. Parker of Rome announces his sudden passing on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the age of 63.
Kevin was born in Rome on April 17, 1957. He attended Rome public schools and enjoyed playing sports starting in the third grade where he was coached by Rome Sports Hall of Famer Stan “Buddy” Evans. Kevin graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1976. Although he is often recognized for his prowess on the basketball court, Kevin also excelled in track and field. While at RFA, Kevin set the high jump record that still has not been broken. He set records in both the high jump and triple jump in 1977 while attending SUNY Plattsburgh. Because of his achievements in sports, Kevin was inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
Kevin worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for over 30 years and served as a Drill Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves for over 29 years. He considered the opportunity to serve his country training new Army recruits as one of the greatest honors of his life.
Kevin loved spending time with his family, working outside with his beloved wife and best friend whom he affectionately referred to as “Crissy” and watching old Godzilla movies during the long, snowy winter months in Rome. His love of sports continued throughout his life. He played basketball on the Rome Labs Team for many years and loved driving his dragster which they dubbed “Wild Cherry” of KCP Racing. Kevin was extremely caring and gave unselfishly of his time to help others.

Kevin is survived by his wife Cristyne Parker; his mother, T.Anna Parker of Virginia; an uncle, Sidney Parker (Lucille) of Rome; a sister, Tracy Parker-Paternella (Philip) of Virginia; a son and two daughters from a previous marriage, Jeffrey Parker of Florida; Nikeshia Parker of Canastota; and Natasha Parker of Albany; a nephew, Justin Parker of Virginia, two grandchildren, Khloe and Matthew, many cousins and friends.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Ardelia Parker; three aunts, Elizabeth Thomas, Henren Evans, and Erma White; and an uncle, James “Buddy” Parker.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, 3592 South Street, Madison, NY 13402 followed by a private family funeral service. A burial service with full military honors will be held immediately following the family service at the Madison Village Cemetery, South Street, Madison, NY.

The Parker family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, PO Box 774, Rome, New York 13442
