She was born October 28, 1927 in Pocahontas to the late George and Josephine Anna Zosso Steimel.
Viola married Charles Joseph Jansen on November 29, 1945. Charles and Viola moved to Lake Ozark, MO in 1964 where they resided for 35 years. In 1999 they moved back to Pocahontas in 1999 where they resided until moving to Evansville, IN in 2010. In 2012 they moved into St. Charles and St. Peter’s Manor.
In 1992, Viola was awarded Missouri Mother of the Year. She and several of her children traveled to Los Angeles for the National Mother of the Year Awards where she presented a speech on the virtue of hope.
Viola and Charles enjoyed coming back to Pocahontas for numerous family reunions as well as vacationing with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She visited Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Colorado, Georgia, Texas, Indiana, Hawaii, and Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Jansen; son, Guy Jeffery Jansen; and five siblings, Edward, Lucille, Hubert, Mildred, and Rita Jo.
Viola is survived by nine children, Carole Monteith, Sharon Jansen, Charles Jansen, Rodney Jansen, Denise Ash, Joseph Jansen, Sheila Reese, Mary Johnson, and Kenneth Jansen; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Baltz; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 9-11 AM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with a Rosary being said at 11 AM. Funeral Mass will follow at 1 PM at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Stephen Elser officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
