Area Theater Pioneer Dies
Mrs. Abbie L. Smith, &&, resident of Isabella home and formerly of Allegan, died Saturday night at the home. Born in Salem township Allegan county, she lived in Allegan until moving here six years ago. Her huband, Dr. Malcolm Smith, died in 1928. Active in theatrical circles, she organized and directed the Community theater in Allegan and aided in the formation of the Red Barn theater in Saugatuck. While here she was a member of the Civic theater organization. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Jerome Lilly, and a brother, Charles A. Bear, both of Grand Rapids. Rev. Thomas J. Wood of Carlisle Evangelical United Brethern church will officiate at the funeral services in the Metcalf chapel at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Winchester cemetery near Byron Center.
