Andrew "Andy" Rossi 1931 - 2007

Andrew Peter Rossi of Baker, Fla., was born on Jan. 25, 1931, in Boston and passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Andrew was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, papa and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Adele Rossi.

Andrew is survived by his loving, dedicated and caring wife, Teresa, of 53 years; two sisters, Adele and husband Mel Poirier, and Claire and husband Fain Weems; two sons, Danny Rossi of Destin, Fla., and John and wife Leigh Ann of Navarre, Fla.; three daughters, Debbie and husband Donald Merhar of Hibbing, Minn., Lori and husband Mark Todd of Shalimar, Fla., and Teresa and husband Mike Barnhill of Destin. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren that were special blessings to him: Jennifer Theisen, Sarah Merhar, Alex, Adam and Dylan Rossi, Christine and Kelli Todd, and Kayla Barnhill; as well as a niece, Linda Poirier; and many loving friends.

Andrew honorably served his country for 22 years and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a senior master sergeant in 1972 at Eglin Air Force Base. He was the General Foreman of the Aircraft Pulpusion Shop. He received many outstanding awards throughout his career, including the Bronze Star Medal and the commendation medal while serving his country.

He was later employed with the Okaloosa County school system where he worked at Choctawhatchee High School and retired in 1992. Andrew was an extraordinary, kind and generous man who loved God, his country, his family, his friends within Choctawhatchee High School and Baker and his beautiful Arabian horses, which he raised, loved and was so proud of. Andrew had an infectious smile that touched many people.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, (Pancan. org) or your favorite charity.

A visitation will be held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach, from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m.
