It is with great sadness and a heavy heart, that we announce the unexpected passing of Dennis Christopher Gordon, who transitioned unexpectedly into eternal life on Monday, October 26, 2020 while vacationing in Puerto Rico.

Dennis was born in Coventry, England on January 3, 1959 to Ivy Gordon and the late Kenneth Gordon. As a child, he immigrated to Hartford in 1969 with his parents. Dennis attended Hartford Public Schools as well as Windsor High School. He was an avid sports enthusiast and broke the school’s record for track and field at Windsor High. He also played on various teams throughout his sports career. Upon his graduation from Windsor High school, Dennis went on to attend the University of Connecticut where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. While at UCONN, Dennis participated in various clubs and cultural organizations and pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity in the Spring of 1979. He developed very strong bonds with his fraternity brothers and always kept in touch throughout the years. As a member of the Greater Hartford community, he played on many soccer leagues where he excelled and was affectionately known as “Rambo.” He also taught his son, Christopher, to play and appreciate the art of Soccer.

Dennis dedicated his working career to Social Work and was employed at several agencies in the Greater Hartford area where he was held in high esteem by all. Before his untimely passing, he was a case worker for seven years with Community Health Services (CHS) in Hartford.

Dennis was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and dear friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. His family will fondly remember him as a very loving and charismatic man who loved his family dearly. He has a silly sense of humor and had a mischievous nature, so his nickname was naturally “Dennis the Menace.” He taught his children to always be independent, manage your money properly, and to never let anything stop you from achieving your goals.

He loved to travel all over, especially to the beach, where he loved to relax and swim. He enjoyed listening to all types of music and had an elaborate record collection that he was very protective of. Dennis loved to cook, specifically “English Breakfast,” and taught his children not only how to make food taste good, but to also look good. He was an avid soccer and football fan and spent his Sundays watching sports and cooking. He loved to study all types of history and taught his children about their Jamaican and British heritage and how important it was to know their family history.

Besides his mother, Dennis leaves to mourn his passing, his son, Christopher Mason-Gordon, his daughter, Jovanie Gordon, and his grandson, Cayden Mason, all of North Carolina; his brother, Nigel Gordon of Windsor; his sister, Doris “Cindy” Mair her husband Paul of Hartford; his former wife and dear friend, Novlette Earlington of Wethersfield; and a host of other close family members, including the Evans, Brown, Kitson, and Dennis families. Mourning his loss are also family members living in England, Jamaica, Canada, and the United States; as well as other relatives, colleagues, and friends too numerous to mention.

His family will receive friends on Monday, November 16, 10-11 a.m., at the Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor, with a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
