Kent Johnson, aka Boogie, was born on September 2, 1962 to Charlene Johnson in Holly Spring, Mississippi. As a child, Boogie and his mother, Charlene, moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. Charlene married Louis Jackson, Boogie’s stepfather, who loved him as his own child. Boogie was the eldest of four brothers.
Boogie was a humble man who looked up to his uncle Johnny and his cousin Robert. As a young father, Boogie enlisted in the Army where he served for four years. After serving in the Army, Boogie moved back to Terre Haute, Indiana and became an employee at Indiana State University where he worked for over 36 years.
Boogie was a big sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family. Boogie was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Boogie departed from this life on November 05, 2020 at Regional Hospital. He is survived by his mother, Charlene Jackson; brothers, Terrence Jackson, Tyrone Jackson, Rick Jackson, and Kyle Jackson; children Kenya Rogers (Teddy) and Kent Johnson, Jr; grandchildren, Isaac Johnson, Kya Johnson, Kenadi Rogers and Tamera Rogers. Boogie also leaves his loving memories with his aunts and uncles, Johnny Johnson (Faye), Arlene Richmond, Ferguson Ayers (Anita), Matt Ayers, Ed Stewart, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Boogie was preceded in death by his stepfather, Louis Jackson, Grandmother Jenny Ayers, Kelly Reliford, Lou Creatia Brown, Olene Reliford, Johnny B Reliford. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2020, at 1:00p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
