Joseph Anthony Henry was born on November 5, 1948 the son of James and Mary (Cronin) Henry. He graduated from St. Francis De Sales Catholic School in Ossian in 1967.
Joseph was drafted by the US Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1968 through 1970 where he earned two bronze stars.
He returned home and started farming near Decorah. Joseph married Marian Balk on December 21, 1968 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. The love that they shared was prevalent to everyone who knew them. Together they had three sons, Michael, Craig and Steven.
Joe continued to dairy farm and worked at CamCar. He later did construction work and enjoyed helping his family with many remodeling and construction projects.
He loved nothing more than beating his friends and family at cards, watching sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Joe was such a family man, spending time with his grandchildren and going to their sporting events or activities meant the world to him.
Joseph is survived by his wife Marian. Children: Michael Henry, Decorah, IA; Craig (Tricia) Henry, Canton, MN and Steven (Jennifer) Henry, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Anthony (Vanessa) Henry, Danielle (Mitchell) Steffans, Logan (fiancé, Kayla Phillips) Henry, Mason (Abby) Henry, Blake (girlfriend, Maddy Michels) Henry, Kollin Henry and Garrett Henry. Great grandchildren: Jaylee and Ryker Henry; Bentley and Addison Steffans; Nora Henry. Sisters: Sue (Bill) Gerard, Davenport, IA and Martha (Larry) Martinson, Decorah, IA. Mother-in-law: Marie Balk, Decorah, IA. Brother and sisters-in-law: Ronald (Mary Lou) Balk, Denver, IA; Virginia (Larry) Gehling, Calmar, IA and Diane (Dennis) Baker, Calmar, IA along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Mary (Cronin) Henry. Brother: Noel Henry. Father-in-law: Anthony Balk. Brother-in-law: Alan Balk.
