The Beecher family moved to Benton Co., Ark. in 1930. Marilyn graduated from Rogers [Ark.] High School, class of 1945, and married Harlon L. Phillips on May 25, 1945. Marilyn supported her husband in his civic and business ventures, most prominently their supermarket business starting with their first grocery store opened in 1953 in Bentonville, Ark., which later expanded throughout the state. Their company was sold to Walmart in 1991.
After retirement Marilyn and Harlon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, supporting the Razorbacks, and traveling with friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Harlon, her parents, her brother, Ray L. Phillips, Jr., and a grandson, Dustin A. Phillips [F.A.G. #58374012]. She is survived by children Janet Sue Hendren (Jimm) and John A. Phillips (Marsha), all of Bentonville, Ark., grandchildren Todd Phillips of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Jason B. Hendren and Janell Lynn Hendren of Bentonville, Ark., three step-grandchildren, Laura (Holder) Jansen of Portland, OR., Jonathan Holder of Fayetteville, Ark., and Elliott Holder of Pea Ridge, Ark., two great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
In her declining years Marilyn was always a joy to those around her, especially Trish Sawyer and teams at Primrose Memory Care, Apple Creek Health & Rehab, Mercy Hospital, and Circle of Life. The family sincerely thanks all those wonderful folks for their loving care.
Final arrangements will be under the direction of Stockdale-Moody Funeral Home. A private service will be held for immediate family at Bentonville [Ark] Cemetery.
