C. J. McCune Rites Set For Saturday
Christopher J. McCune, 86, of the Argonne Hotel, retired insurance agent and one-time dry goods store operator, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday in St. Rita's Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. McCune had been a patient in the hospital the last four years. He was born Christmas Day, 1868, in Leadville, Colo., and had lived in Lima most of his life.
He once owned a dry goods store, where the southern portion of The Leader Store now is located. He sold his store to Gus Holstine, late owner of The Leader Store, more than 50 years ago.
A short time later, he organized the King-McCune-McKenzie Insurance Agency, which operated until 1919 when he entered business with F. T. O'Connor, maintaining this partnership until 1939 when he sold his interests in the firm and the agency became known as O'Connor-McLaughlin Co. General Insurance.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Shawnee Country Club and the Lima Club.
His only survivor is a son, Dr. Donovan McCune, with the Kaiser Memorial Hospital, Vallejo, Calif.
The body will remain in the Cantwell-Sweet Mortuary until Requiem High Mass at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Rose Church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. W. J. McKeown will be celebrant. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
