Mr. Anthony Lindsey Ford, 70, of Albany, Georgia departed this life on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at his residence in Albany, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 11:00 A.M. at Bethel A.M.E Church parking lot, 217 South Washington Street, Albany, Georgia.

Committal services will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens, 3945 North Valdosta Road, Valdosta, Georgia.

Anthony Lindsey Ford was born on February 2, 1950 to Frank Ford, Jr. and Odessa Nicholson Ford (both deceased) in Tallahassee, Florida.

As a military child, his early education included Albany, Georgia, Rio, Texas, Okinawa, Japan and Middle Town Area High School, where he graduated high school as an Eagle Scout.

From there he began his college career at Orange Town Community College and later ascertained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater from Valdosta State University. Anthony, who was lovingly known as Tony, served at Air Force Base from 1970-1974.

During this time he met and wedded his beloved wife of 48 years, Gloria Evans. At the close of his military career, he continued his educational path, attending the University of South Carolina where he earned his Masters Degree in Theater.

Upon completion, Tony and his young family moved to the beautiful caribbean island of St. Croix of The United States Virgin Islands, where he lived for 7 years. His passionate career path began as an Art Teacher on St. Croix which led him back to his undying love for the theater. As Stage Manager of the Island’s Center Ampere Theater, he developed a group of youth performers called the Island Players.

Upon returning to the Continent of the United States he integrated and implemented the innovative idea and creation of the EdZoocation program at Chehaw Park in Albany, Georgia. Later an opportunity arose that allowed him to grow and return to the theater where he became Manager of the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, Georgia. He was instrumental in introducing Arena Football to the Columbus area as well as an array of entertainment groups including Disney on Ice, Sesame Street and a host of other performing artists.

Concerns for his mother’s declining health led him back to Albany, Georgia at which time he became the Public Relations Director at the Albany Civic Center. He was instrumental again, in the introduction of Arena Football along with a variety of other family oriented entertainment. While working in the entertainment field he recognized the need to introduce our upcoming youth into the Art of Theater. This idea gave birth to the “Overall Players” and musical group “Blue Harmony”, this was a group of young performers from Radium Springs Middle Magnet School of the Arts. The two groups traveled regionally performing at schools, churches and other civic groups.

After retirement in June 2018, Tony aspired to perform in a storytelling duo with his wife Gloria as “Papa & Gigi”. Due to an unexpected decline in his health this dream was deferred.
