Walter Lowrie Martin III (Bud), 93, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020. He has now been reunited with his beloved wife, Edith, who recently passed. The star that Bud placed on top of his silo many years ago was turned on last night by Fred and Christie Huger in his honor. Bud was born on September 30, 1927.

His love for farming began when he was a very young child, and continued for his entire life.

He was a lifetime member of New Providence Presbyterian Church where he was a loyal deacon and elder. He loved singing in the choir and served for many years on the cemetery committee.

Bud was a longtime member of the Brownsburg Ruritan Club. He was known by all for "Bud Martin's BBQ Chicken."

He was a good neighbor and an outstanding community member. Bud never knew a stranger and he was a role model for both the young and old. He was kind, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a wonderful storyteller; always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He was loved and admired by all.

Surviving are his two daughters, Mary Lynn Brown of Fairfield (Ray) and Judy Gray of Harrisonburg (Stan); one son, James Lee Martin of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Kelly O'Connor (Jarromy), Kristen Brown, Kevin Brown (Kristi), Chris Gray, Katie Gray (Rob), David Gray; and five great-grandchildren.

The family extends an extra special thank you to Bud's wonderful caregiver, Missy Noel, and to the Rockbridge Area Hospice.

A private family graveside service is planned. A celebration of life will be planned for a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pod School at New Providence Presbyterian Church, 1208 New Providence Road, Raphine, VA 24472.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
