Shirley Kay Carter passed away on Saturday, November 7th peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Her passing was four days after saying goodbye to the love of her life, Twain Robert Carter. Shirley's last words to Twain were "I love you and I'm right behind you".
Shirley was born on May 24th, 1934 in Evanston, Wyoming. She was the only child of Mary Ellen Taylor and Lindon Roy Taylor. She attended North Summit High School where she enjoyed being a majorette and supporting the school's programs. She was also a proud member of an all-girls softball team called the "Henefer Schmoos", the team continued to meet together every Christmas following high school.
On March 16th, 1951 she married her late husband Twain in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they were active members of the LDS church, serving in many capacities. They served in the Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission and the Inner-City Ogden Mission. Shirley served as a Morgan City Councilwoman which demonstrated how her and Twain were constant staples at community events as they acted as great examples of civic service. Throughout her life, Shirley worked for Farmers Insurance, Marquette, Morgan City Offices, and Wilkinson construction where she retired in 1990.
Twain and Shirley enjoyed supporting and following Morgan High school sports. They enjoyed going on long car rides together and spending time with family and friends at their property in the Uinta Mountains. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed being a part of a lady's birthday club where they would get together once a month to celebrate each other's birthdays.
After retirement Twain and Shirley enjoyed traveling. They went on a Caribbean cruise, traveled to Hawaii, Nauvoo Illinois, Branson Missouri and every summer they would go to Jackson Hole with Twain's brother and sister in law, Leon and Judy Carter to watch the Bar J Wranglers.
Shirley is survived by her loving children RaVonna (Chuck) McQuiddy, Delwin (Karen) Carter, Lorna (Rick) Walker, 6 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with another on its way.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Twain Robert Carter; parents, Lindon Roy and Mary Ellen Taylor and two precious grandchildren Travis Charles McQuiddy and Marie McQuiddy Daley.
A special thank you to her granddaughter Tina Ekblad for taking special care of her grandparents in the last few years and to Twain and Shirley's children for taking care of their parents in their final days.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private viewing will be held for family at Walker Mortuary and funeral services be held at the South Morgan, Cemetery on Saturday, November 14th at 11:00 am. The services will be livestreamed on Shirley's obituary page at www.walker-mortuary.com.
