Mrs. Nancy Morris Spangler died at age 93, after a brief illness, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Nancy was born March 30, 1921, in Williamson, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Fenton Lee and Estell Virginia Ball Morris.

She grew up and worked for a time in West Virginia. She obtained a college business degree there and it was during this course of study that she met and married her first husband, Lee Waugh. Lee left school to join the Army, as the United States was entering the Second World War. Lee died on French soil shortly after D-Day. After Lee's death, Nancy attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in the social sciences and a teaching certificate. It was during this time that Nancy reconnected with a high school classmate named Richard "Dick" Spangler.

She and Dick married on November 8, 1947. She gave birth to son Richard "Rick" on July 12, 1949, and daughter Charlotte on May 3, 1952. When Dick got a job in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the family moved to nearby Mt. Lebanon. Son Robert "Rob" was born there on November 11, 1953, and the family lived in Mt. Lebanon throughout the three children's school years. Nancy began working as a teacher of social studies and business for the Mount Lebanon Public Schools.

Although her husband Dick died in 1988, Nancy continued teaching in various capacities until age 75. Nancy was an active member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, the Garden Arts Club and Tri Delta Sorority. She loved gardening, swimming (particularly in the ocean surf), the mountains, her many friends, and her extensive family.

She is survived by her three children: Richard Conrad Spangler III (Sharon), Charlotte Spangler Chessman (Robert), and Robert Lee Spangler (Susan); Rick and Sharon's children: Charlotte Spangler, Anne McCraw (Rhett), Richard Spangler IV and Elizabeth Spangler; Charlotte's children: Matthew (Hannah Alphs), Charles (Yau Wong), Rachel (Erik Paulsen), and Benjamin Jackson; Rob and Sue's children: Christopher, Jonathon, and Sarah Spangler; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and one great grandson, Alexander Jackson, born on January 29, 2014, in Chicago.

Nancy was the center of her family and much loved by all. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., June 7, at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (15228).

Memorials may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church.
