CUMBERLAND – Nancy Jo (McGill) Phillips, 84, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at UPMC Western Maryland. She was a resident of Hearthstone Nursing for the past five years.
Born on August 22, 1936, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Lester Reckley and Joanne (Sirk) McGill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Leslee Jo (Phillips) Moon; her sister, Patricia Ann Paye; and brother-in-law, Donald Paye, Anacortes, WA.
Nancy was a 1954 graduate of Allegany High School, and 1957 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Following her graduation, she worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland for over 40 years until she retired. She was a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church for 57 years where she also volunteered as an assistant Sunday school teacher.
Nancy also had many interests and hobbies, including crocheting, ceramics, gardening, and collecting various collectable teddy bears.
Nancy is survived by her beloved grandson, Zackery Moon, Cumberland, MD; nephew, Andrew Paye, Kennewick, WA; and niece, Amanda Paye, Seattle, WA; great-nephews, Erik Paye and wife Kim, Hamilton, MT, and Brandon Paye and wife Shelly, Bozeman, MT. She was also devoted to her many friends, including a pen pal in England that she corresponded with for over 70 years.
In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, she will be cremated, and there will be no formal visitation or funeral services.
Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
It was also Nancy’s wish that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5206, Cresaptown, MD 21505.
