Henry is my Paternal Great-Uncle.
Henry was born on 4 Jan 1871 in Scharley, Kr. Beuthen, Upper Silenia, Germany to Jakob & Mathilda Erma (Erlckamp) Musialik. This is really Poland, but at this time was part of Prussia under the Germans, hence "Germany"
Henry emigrated on 26 April 1894 from Bremen, Germany. He arrived in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland on 9 May 1894. The ship's manifest showed he was heading for Chicago, Illinois which is where his younger brother was located. Henry was listed as Heinri Muschalik on the ship's manifest. The transcription of the manifest shows him as Heinr Maklalck [manifest/passenger list shows surname as Muschalck-transcriber was wrong].
Henry was naturalized on 14 Jun 1905 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois. I have not found any indication that Henry was ever married or had any children.
He has been found in the following census records:
1) 13 June 1900-Henry Mushalik, lodger with Leopold Sandke family in Lake View Twp, Chicago, Cook, Illinois . His occupation was listed as "Bartender".
2) 29 April 1910-Henry Mushalak, boarder with Philip Gaska family in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. His occupation was listed as " Painter car buildings" (Railroad?).
3) 10 January 1920-Henry Muschalik, boarder with Thomas & Lolo Garrell in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. His occupation was listed as " Railroad worker (painter)".
4) 7 April 1930 -Henry Muchalik in Laurel, Washington, Oregon. His occupation was listed as "Farm Worker".
5) 26 Apr 1940 -Henry Muschalik, Washington County, Oregon where he apparently stayed until his death in 1944. No occupation or industry listed.
In 1922, Henry received a U.S. passport. His passport application indicated he was going back to Europe for a visit with family. He returned to the United States in 1924.
The only known family that Henry had in the United States was a younger brother, my grandfather,
